New settings in German phonetic translator

We updated recently our German phonetic converter. Now it has 4 more settings that allow you to adjust the phonetic transcription to your liking:

  • the way how the phoneme /r/ is displayed: either as /r/ or as uvular trill /ʀ/,
  • how the diphthong /aɪ̯/ is displayed: [aɪ̯] or [aɛ̯]
  • how the diphthong /aʊ̯/ is displayed: [aʊ̯] or [aɔ̯]
  • how the diphthong /ɔʏ̯/ is displayed: [ɔʏ̯], [ɔɪ̯], or [ɔœ̯]

Note that for the last diphthong, the first option is used in Wikipedia, the second option is used in Duden’s Aussprachewörterbuch and the third option is used in Deutsches Aussprachewörterbuch by Krech et al.

We hope this tool will help you learn German pronunciation fast.
